Private Charles McKeever

 

The background of this man is not known at present. It is possible that he was the Charles McKeevor who enlisted in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers at Enniskillen on 26 October 1905 (No.8415). He stated that he was born at Innishmacsaint, Derrygonnelly, County Fermanagh, son of James and Margaret (née Owens), that he was aged 19, and worked as a labourer. He deserted on 24 April 1906.

McKeever enlisted in the North Irish Horse at Omagh on 24 July 1917 (No.2626). He was described as being 5' 9" tall, with a pale complexion and dark hair. He stated that he was aged 27, was born in Enniskillen, and worked as a farm labourer.

He trained at the regiment's reserve base at Antrim, but was reported to have deserted on 2 September 1917. Whether he subsequently returned to duty is not known.
